They say “Wisdom is knowing the right path to take. Integrity is taking it.”
In this era of social media where we continuously seek validation based on online ‘engagement’, more and more people are losing sight of what it means to have integrity.
Integrity by definition “is the practice of being honest and showing a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values.” I like to use this word interchangeably with “AUTHENTICITY” – the degree to which an individual’s actions are congruent with their beliefs and desires, ‘despite external pressures’.
To be authentic means to live in a way that conforms to the person you believe yourself to be, in your private life, your public life, and your “social media life”. The problem is that a lot of people don’t even know who they believe themselves to be, what their values are, or what they stand for.
“If you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything”.
You’ll fall for the pressures of society.
You’ll fall for the pressures of social media.
You’ll fall for the pressures of anyone who thinks they understand your life better than you do.
So take time to understand yourself, clearly define what values mean the most to you, and make sure your actions are not compromising them.
I feel blessed to have a partner who shares my most important values <3
